A CarPlay adapter is different from a full CarPlay retrofit decoder. It does not add CarPlay to a car that never had it. Instead, it is made for vehicles that already have factory wired Apple CarPlay or wired Android Auto, then converts the cable connection into a wireless connection through the original USB port.
Before You Buy a CarPlay Adapter
| 1. Confirm Original Wired CarPlay
Your vehicle should already support wired Apple CarPlay from the factory USB port. |
2. Check Android Auto Support
If you need Android Auto, confirm whether your original system or selected adapter supports wired Android Auto conversion. |
| 3. Check USB Port Type
Some cars use USB-A and some use USB-C. Choose the correct adapter or cable connection for your vehicle. |
4. Do Not Use for Non-CarPlay Cars
If your car has no factory wired CarPlay, this adapter category is not the correct solution. Choose a CarPlay interface module instead. |
CarPlay Adapter vs CarPlay Interface
Use a CarPlay adapter if your vehicle already has wired CarPlay and you only want to make it wireless. Use a CarPlay interface decoder if your vehicle has an original screen but does not have CarPlay built in.
This difference is important because a wireless adapter cannot create CarPlay from nothing. It needs the original wired CarPlay system as the base connection.
